Dental Bonding

WHAT IS DENTAL BONDING?

Accidents happen – it’s life. And sometimes, those accidents could impact your teeth. You could take a bad fall and chip a tooth, a tooth can get discolored from an illness or medication, a sports injury could break a tooth, and more. Dentist Dr. Asher Henegar performs bonding to fix certain cosmetic flaws at his office in Colorado Springs, CO. An easy, effective treatment, bonding uses composite resin (the same material used for tooth-colored fillings) to mask discoloration, reduce gaps in your teeth, lengthen a tooth, or even change the shape of a tooth. For more information on how you can improve your teeth with dental bonding, schedule a consultation at R. Asher Henegar, D.D.S., P.A.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM DENTAL BONDING

Dental bonding is a great way to fix minor flaws in teeth, such as chips, gaps, and more. Bonding is typically performed in one appointment in our office in Colorado Springs, CO. You should not need anesthesia, but sedation options may be reviewed with Dr. Henegar at your consultation if you have any anxiety or a strong gag reflex. As soon as you are ready, Dr. Henegar will begin applying the bonding material to the desired areas of your teeth with the help of one of his team members. The resin will be hardened before more layers are added. Once the layers of composite resin are set, Dr. Henegar will shape and smooth the filling material and your natural enamel for an even finish. Once your appointment is over, you should avoid staining foods and drinks (like tea, coffee, and tobacco) for 48 hours. The bonding material can stain and chip so don’t bite down on hard objects, such as ice, hard candy, pens, and fingernails, and clean your teeth as soon as possible after eating. Bonded teeth should be cleaned just like natural teeth with regular brushing, flossing, and mouthwash. With ideal care, bonding may last as long as ten years. Bonding isn’t as strong as crowns or veneers and usually does not last as long; therefore, Dr. Asher may consider a different cosmetic or restorative procedure if you need more extensive repairs.
